Saturday, August 17, 2002 Meeting Minutes

The August 17th, 2002 membership meeting of the Oklahoma Master Locksmith Association was called to order at 5:35 p.m. by our President, Mike McGrew. The invocation was given by Kenneth Lee. The pledge to the Flag was also given. The roll call of all officers and directors was given by secretary, Nelda Minick. All were present except Charles Hudecek. Nelda stated that the last membership meeting minutes of May 4, 2002, were printed in our newsletter, and asked that they be approved as printed. Motion was made by Jerry Casey and 2nd'd by Ken Coleman and the minutes were approved as printed.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Loretta Loomis gave our financial report and asked that it be approved. Motion was made by Frank Bellizzi and 2nd'd by Gloria Holtzschue and the financial report was approved.

The resignation of our education chairman, Charles Hudecek, was read to the membership.

Mr. Hudecek will be unable to fulfill his duties as education chairman due to family illnesses.

Odie Tresner stated that the raffle from the Steve Young class made $509.00.

NEW BUSINESS

Vice President, Harry Sher mentioned educational opportunities that were available to the members and asked for suggestions for any upcoming class topics. It was also announced that the Ozark Association's Locksmith meeting will be Sept. 7 & 8. The MINK Regional meeting will be Oct. 3rd, 4th, & 5th. Our own OMLA next meeting will be November 16th.

All applications for membership were read by Nelda Minick and applicants were introduced to the membership. These applicants were: David Wofford, Broken Arrow, Ok.; Scott Hancock, Del City, Ok.; Kenneth Jordan, Bentonville, Ar.,; Tonia Bruehl, Norman, Ok.; Jim Graves, Lamar, Mo.; and Bob Christoffersen, Fremont, Ne. The motion was made by Randy Knox, and 2nd'd by Gary Frame to approve these applicants for membership. Applicants were approved for membership by all members present.

Loretta Loomis asked that all bills and expenses for this weekend by approved for payment. Motion was made by Frank Bellizzi and 2nd'd by Jim Yeager. All bills were approved for payment.

Johnny Stewart mentioned to the membership and the new members of the vidoe tape library that was available to everyone for check-out at $5.00 per tape. This cost is for the mailing and shipping cost of the tape.

Paula Sands and Nelda Minick will be taking member pictures and signatures for their ID badges. These badges will be prepared and laminated by Tommy Minick and will be mailed to all members.

Mike stated how very important it was for each OMLA member to pre-register for upcoming classes. This will help plan for class material and lunches in advance. All class information will be printed in each newsletter as soon as it is available for all members. Tommy Minick will be teaching a more advanced safe class to include scoping, and reading the safe lock at our next November meeting in Tulsa, Ok. Richard Hall discussed the availability of a Life Safety Class that would be taught by the Fire Dept.

Mike opened the floor of the meeting for a new chairmanship for the education committee.

One of new members, Scott Hancock volunteered to chair this committee and he will be working with Richard Hall and Harry Sher on our upcoming educational classes.

Frank Bellizzi reminded the members present to turn in their badges to secretary, Nelda Minick, so they could be used at our next meetings. Frank also reminded everyone of our Swap Meet at 7:00p.m. right after this meeting. The swap meeting will have participation from many of our members as well as Ms. Swindoll from Texas and Steve Young and John Reed.

All our new members were made welcome into the Okla. Master Locksmith Association.

GOOD OF THE ORDER

Mike thanked Steve Young and Debbie and also John Reed for their great support and educational classes that they have given to our association.

Bill Reaves discussed the Ozark Distributor show in September. He discussed the classes and BBQ that would be furnished. Pre-Registration for this show is Sept. 1.

It was mentioned that one of our life members: Pat Gray was doing much better after surgery from cancer. Clarence Dabney from Norman, Ok., had previously lost his wife and was selling most of his locksmith supplies. Jerry McNickle informed the membership of the difficulty that Frank Tapp was having due to the illness of his son Craig.

Mike mentioned that Security Centers Inc. of Tulsa, Ok. was having an auction on Aug. 24th to sell their locksmith business. The address of the auction is 10321 E. 47th Pl.

Randy Knox asked if there could be a price guideline available to help formulate charges of locksmith work.

Harry & Bonnie Sher are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this weekend.

The weekend educational winner was Mr. Jim Graves.

The Okla. Master Locksmith was thankful and grateful to John Reed, IDN, Brooks Supply, and Kenneth Lee for donating door prizes this weekend. Many of our members and guest present won these great door prizes and were most appreciative to all our suppliers for their support.

Our next OMLA membership meeting will be November 16th, 2002 at the Holiday Inn-Select, in Tulsa, Ok.
