Saturday, May 4, 2002 Meeting Minutes

The May 4, 2002, membership meeting of the Oklahoma Master Locksmith Association was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by our President, Mike McGrew. Invocation was given by Kenny Lee. The Flag Salute was given by all present. The roll call of all officers and directors was given by Nelda Minick, Secretary. Those present were Mike McGrew, Harry Sher, Nelda Minick, Loretta Loomis, Paula Sands, Jerry Casey, and Gary Frame. Those absent were Johnny Stewart, Charles Hudecek, Frank Bellizzi, and Odie Tresner. Nelda asked for motion to approve the last membership meeting minutes of February 2, 2002, as printed in the last newsletter. Motion was 2nd'd by Tommy Minick and was accepted by all present.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Vice President, Harry Sher, said that plans for our 2003 Trade Show were going well. Treasurer, Loretta Loomis asked that the bills for this weekend be approved for payment. Motion was made and accepted to pay the bills and expenses. In the absence of Education Chairman, Charles Hudecek, Mike said that the Ingersol/Rand class for Saturday was all ready as planned for this weekend.

NEW BUSINESS

Mike suggested to the members present that we all try talking to our distributors to discuss all concerns regarding communications with each other in the locksmithing industry. Nelda Minick, stated that we had two applications for membership. Mr. Bob Christofferson pending publication in the next news letter. He will be voted on for membership at our next membership meeting in August. Mr. Richard Hall, apprentice Locksmith in Stillwater, Ok. will be voted on at tonight’s meeting for membership. A motion was made by Randy Knox, and 2nd'd by Gary Frame, to accept Mr. Hall as a member into the Oklahoma Master Locksmith Association. Mr. Hall was sworn in for membership by Mike McGrew. Loretta Loomis, gave the financial report. Motion was made to accept the report by Jerry Casey, and 2nd'd by Harry Sher. Motion carried . Mike mentioned all the locksmith videos that were available for checkout. Paula Sands stated that the membership directory would be mailed to the members at the end of May. Mike stated that Steve Young was coming to teach a class in August, as well as Tommy Minick teaching a safe opening & servicing class. Tommy mentioned the possibility of having an "open house" of the Safeman Museum on Sunday and all the members are invited to come see his antique safe collection. Harry Sher discussed a GSA for Sunday also.

GOOD OF THE ORDER

Kenny Lee praised the locksmith industry, and discussed the safe and educational classes he had enjoyed teaching for the OMLA members. He gave a brief talk about his association and friendship with Don Smith. Don Smith was given a Life Member Award and was presented by Kenny.

Lelia McNickle mentioned that we should get flyers of upcoming associational events to our distributors for them to attach to their monthly publications.

It was asked that we all keep Loretta and Jim Loomis's granddaughter in prayer, for the upcoming surgery.

A poll was taken regarding the types of upcoming educational classes that the membership would like to have. Types mentioned were: automotive, Types mentioned were: automotive, safe servicing, master key systems, basic electronics, basic locksmithing, fire safety and life safety codes, door closures, safe deposit boxes servicing, and access control systems. Mike asked that everyone try to please pre-registering in advance for future upcoming classes. Lelia McNickle was this weekends winner for a Free Educational class. Our new member, Richard Hall thanked the membership for accepting him as a new member into the association.

MEMBER COMMENTS

Randy Knox told us all to please notify potential clients if we see a defective door closure that should be repaired. This would be a safety favor and possibly prevent possible safety liabilities.

Our next associational membership meeting will be August 17, 2002 at the Saddleback Inn, in Okla. City at 5:30 p.m.
