UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Secretary, Nelda Minick, asked that the previous
membership meeting minutes of
NEW BUSINESS:
Mike McGrew presented C.D. Lipscomb with our associations Certificate of
Appreciation for his taking time to help with our PRP class this weekend. Mike
discussed the date of our future November meeting in Ok. City,
Ok. Nov. has an extra weekend in the month. It was discussed whether to
have the meeting the 15th or the 22nd. It was decided to hold our November 2003
meeting on the 15th. This weekend would also meet with C.D. Lipscomb schedule
to teach a Nov. education class. Mike mentioned the need for our association to
elect a new nominating committee chairman for the new upcoming 2004-2005
officers. Directors would not need to be re-elected until the following year.
Jim Loomis graciously volunteered for this position. Jim was elected as our
nominating committee chairman by acclamation from the members present. The
nominating committee will only need to fill the position of Secretary, as all
other officers had agreed to serve another term. Mike asked for
"brainstorming" ideas from members to find ways to help get more
people interested in attending our meetings. Flyers, extra advertising, phone
calling, different types of educational classes, etc. were possible suggestions
for helping our association to grow. C.D. Lipscomb suggested having some
certification classes by Ingersoll/Rand. C.D. also stated, "Educating
ourselves and learning about other lock products would be very beneficial for
those interested in attending this type of class for their certification."
Cost of classes was also discussed. Types of the classes and
advanced response was discussed by many different members present. Tommy
Minick poled the membership to ask if Sat. or Sun.
was better for our scheduling dates. A. B. Parker made suggestion for doing an
IC Core class. All members should help call other locksmiths in their area to
help improve our attendance and invite them to our upcoming meetings. Scott
Hancock mentioned our future classes that are scheduled to be held at our next
Aug. meeting. C.D. stated that, "A Good Lock Association has more
political power in legislation. The bigger and better our association is, the
better it is for us when trying to solve legislation problems." Billy
& Janis Reves, and other members also stated how
we should all "pull together" to help our associations advancement.
Nelda introduced a new locksmith applicant for membership.,
and read his application. His name is Robert Honea, from
Treasurer, Loretta Loomis, asked for approval to pay the bills for this
weekend. Motion was made to approve the bills by Tommy Minick,
and 2nd'd by Dusty Brummitt. Motion carried by all
present.
It was stated by Mike that members would only be allowed to check-out a
maximum of two videos at one time from our lock video library. When those two
are returned then another two could be checked out by that person. Mike also
announced that Johnny Stewart's wife, Regena would be having neck surgery soon. Also, C.D.
Lipscomb's daughter was ill.
Education chairman, Scott Hancock, told the membership about the Tax class
given by Dewey Brandon, from the Okla. Tax Comm. that was taught this morning;
as well as the PRP prep class given by C.D. Lipscomb. Scott also discussed the
classes for our next meeting on Aug. 16th. There will be two ½ day classes so
everyone will be able to attend both classes.
Mr. Brandon, with the Tax Commission will teach a ½ day class that Sat.
morning and Tommy Minick, will teach a Safe
Combination Change, ½ day class that same Sat. afternoon.
The cost for the Tax class will be $10.00 and the Safe Comb. Change class
will be $20.00. For all those that wish to take both classes and pre-register
ahead of time, the discounted price would only be $25.00. In the
future, some 1-day classes will be scheduled. C.D. Lipscomb will be teaching a
1 day class on Basic locksmith Picking and Impressioning
at our Nov. 15th weekend meeting. Another future class will be on servicing
Safe Deposit Box locks. This class will be taught by A.B. Parker and Lowell
Roberts.
GOOD OF THE ORDER:
At our next Aug. 16th meeting, we will be having our annual Swap Meet. Tommy
Minick will be chairman of this event. Tommy
discussed different ideas for our Swap Meet with the members present. Tommy
asked everyone to call him with a list of types of items they would be bringing
to the swap meet. This list will be published in advance in our newsletter and
in flyers for our suppliers to send with their outgoing shipments. The swap
meet would also be announced on the "ClearStar"
network and with A.L.O.A. Everyone should call all
their other locksmith friends and encourage them to attend the Swap Meet so
they can acquire great merchandise at a great discount price.
