Saturday, February 19, 2000 Meeting Minutes

Meeting was called to order by President Jerry Casey. Officers & Directors present included Pres. Jerry Casey, Vice President Mike McGrew, Secretary Nelda Minick, Treasurer Loretta Loomis, Sgt..-At-Arms Johnny Stewart, Editor Dean Brown, Past Pres. Lowell Roberts, Education Chairman Jerry Rice and Directors Frank Bellizzi, Gary Frame, and Odie Tresner.

Minutes:

Secretary nelda Minick informed the group that the minutes of the last stated Membership Meeting on Nov. 20, 1999, were printed and mailed to all members in the December, 1999 newsletters. Nelda made the motion to accept the minutes as printed in the newsletter. Motion was seconded by Lowell Roberts. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business:

Pres. Jerry Casey said he didn't have anything.

Vice Pres. Vice President Mike McGrew said we did well at this weekend's show. All but 3 of the booths were filled. Exhibitors said they looked forward to coming back next time. We have contracts for all but 7 of the 29 booths for next year's show in Tulsa.

Past Pres. Lowell Roberts reminded us that at the last meeting (Nov. 1999) the membership voted to make Jerry McNickle a life member of OMLA. This special member card was riot ready at the last meeting. Tonight, Jerry McNickle was presented his gold life membership card by Lowell Roberts.

Education. Jerry Rice reminded us all of the class Sunday morning from 8 - 12 on Wafer Lock Reading and Impressioning, taught by Bob Sieveking of Sieveking Products, Co., Inc.

Directors. Frank Bellizzi mentioned that some of the members had not received their last newsletter. All problems are being taken care of and member addresses are being updated.

New Business:

Pres. Jerry Casey told the membership that a new directory would be printed soon. Everyone with an e-mail address and a fax number should include them in their updated address listings.

Vice Pres. Mike McGrew told us that Larry and Paula Sands from Nebraska would be explaining the website possibilities for our Association at the end of the meeting.

Secretary: Nelda Minick said that 23 people signed up for the Sunday class. There were 82 people counting exhibitors at the lunch today. We had 89 people registered at the show this weekend. Nelda also read a thank you letter from Jack Alt for the support of the Association. He has recently sold his lock and key business in Chickasha, OK. to David Schlittenhardt. Another thank you note was read from Bert Parsons for his appreciation of the free class weekend given to him last November. A previous OMLA member was applying for reinstatement to OMLA for membership for the year 2000. Dues and reinstatement have been paid by this person, Ken Coleman of Anchor Lock & Key of OKC. A motion was made to accept Mr. Coleman for reinstatement by Charles Hudecek. Motion was 2nded by Odie Tresner. Motion carried and Ken Coleman was sworn in for membership by President Jerry Casey.

Treasurer: Loretta Loomis supplied everyone present with a copy of the OMLA Finance Report. Loretta asked for approval of the expenses for this weekend. Motion was made by Odie Tresner to approve the expenses for payment. Motion was 2nded by Jim Loomis. Motion carried to write checks and it was voted to accept the Treasurer's Report.

Sgt.-At-Arms:Johnny Stewart said security at the exhibits went well with no problems. Johnny reported that there were 11 guests and 28 members present at tonight's membership meeting. There is a complete locksmith video tape library for members to rent and check out.

Editor: Dean Brown said that February's newsletter would be mailed out this Monday and everyone should be receiving theirs.

Past Pres.: Lowell Roberts discussed the rules and regulations of the associations constitutional by-laws. Rules were gone over, and a few changes were made by the board members and were approved. All members will be getting a copy of these by-laws in the newsletter. The only change was Rule # 8, which governs the cost of exhibit booths. Cost was increased to $225.00, after the show $250.00. End cap booths at the show will be $250.00, after the show $275.00. As long as the down payment is paid within 30 days after the current show they will receive the cheaper show rate. This cost will include a business card ad for that company in our newsletter for one year. The associate membership yearly dues are $50.00; this will also include a business card ad in the newsletter. All other rules were approved as read and approved on December 17, 1997.

Education: Jerry Rice told the membership of the plans for the May class in Tulsa, OK. This will be a safe manipulation class by Kenny Lee. This class is limited to 20 people. This will be the last class taught by Kenny Lee. This 2-day class will cost $125.00, which includes 2 lunches, the locks used in the class and all the hand out material. Kenny Lee talked to the meeting about this upcoming class. The first class he taught was for the Oklahoma Locksmith Association in 1977, and his last class will be for the same Association.

Directors: Altus, Frank Bellizze welcomed all the new officers and directors to the association. Jerry Rice was thanked for all the good work on education. Frank welcomed Keith and Katherine Knott, from Llano, TX to our Association. Keith has also taught very good safe classes and welcomed many locksmiths into his home. Frank also told the group about tomorrow's class by Bob Sieveking.

Odie Tresner of Rogers, AR talked about a safe class in the future sometime, held in Oklahoma and taught by Keith Knott.

Odie also told us about the Ozark Association meeting, March 11 & 12, in Eureka Springs. Forms are available for anyone interested.

Good of the Order: Lowell Roberts announced to the Association that the 6th of this month, he and his bride, Jackie celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. Nelda Minnick read a poem about a "Locksmith Tale" to the group.

A website presentation was given by Paula Sands. She demonstrated and explained on her laptop different possibilities and discussed how important a website could be to our Association. Domain and registration on the Internet were discussed. Possible subjects for a web page were: Tricks of the Trade, Locksmith News Information, Classified Ads, Suppliers Listings and Membership Applications. Only a blank application form could be obtained from the site. No personal information about a person would be available. Paula explained that an Association website for our newsletter could cut printing and mailing costs considerable. Any information or changes to go into the site would to to our Editor, Dean Brown. He then in turn would give the information to Paula for changes on the website for corrections and updating. Al initial registration, design, set-up, and other rates were explained by Paula and discussed with all members present at the meeting. The password into the website for the Association was also discussed. it was decided to let our Editor, Dean Brown choose the password.

Monthly charge for the site would by $25.95 after all the initial costs were taken care of. Date costs were also explained. It was voted to establish an OMLA website. Twenty-One members voted to establish our Internet website. It was discussed by Mike McGrew that the Board Members will discuss and rule on Paula handling our site with the current newsletter editor. Dean Brown's e-mail address will be printed on the newsletter so all members can send him their information for the website. Special secure information will not be printed in our newsletter at this time. A motion was made by Lelia McNickle that Dean Brown send a first class letter to only members giving them the site password, and not publish it in the newsletter. This motion was 2nded y Lowell Roberts. This motion was voted on and approved by the members present.

President Jerry Casey announced the next OMLA meeting would be May 6 & 7 at the Holiday Inn Select in Tulsa, OK. More information regarding this meeting will be printed in the newsletter. Motion made to adjourn by Lelia McNickle, 2nded by Odie Tresner. Motion carried.
