Saturday, February 17, 2001 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by our President, Jerry Casey. Invocation was given by Jim Loomis. Membership pledged our allegiance to the flag.

Secretary Nelda Minick called the Roll of all the Association officers and directors. Officers present were: Jerry Casey, Mike McGrew, Nelda Minick, Loretta Loomis, Paula Sands, Lowell Roberts, Charles Hudecek, Gary Frame and Odie Tresner. Johnny Stewart and Frank Bellizzi were absent.

Nelda Minick made the motion that the minutes of November 18, 2000 be approved as printed in the Locktalk newsletter. Motion was 2nd’d by Gary Frame and approved.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Vice President Mike McGrew made an announcement to the membership about Certificates of Appreciation to be given to the automotive facilities who furnished cars for our previous automotive class. Gene Holder will present these certificates of appreciation to the auto dealerships.

Treasurer Loretta Loomis gave The Association’s financial report. The report was discussed and the account balance as of January 31, 2001 was presented.

Lowell Roberts notified the membership of the National Locksmith Magazines that were available to any members. Also Mr. Roberts mentioned the amendment addition to our constitutional by-laws that was voted on at the executive board meeting. Rule # 11 states that: "Any Board Member receiving funds must transfer said funds to the Treasurer within 10 days of receipt of those funds. The Secretary must be notified of all transactions."

NEW BUSINESS

Vice President Mike McGrew thanked all our lock distributors for their help and support to show us their products at our trade show this weekend. Mike stated that he would be sending out fliers to some of our distributors and members to notify everyone of our future OMLA meetings. Nelda Minick said that we had 87 in attendance at this weekend’s OMLA meeting.

Secretary Nelda Minick presented 3 applicants for membership to our Association. The applications were read to the membership. These applicants were voted on by each OMLA member present. Motion was made to accept Linda Bartram, Denny Bowers, and Harry Sher for membership in our Association by Odie Tresner. Motion was 2nd’d by Randy Knox. Each of the 3 applicants were sworn in as new members of the OMLA by President Jerry Casey. Odie Tresner was sworn in as one of our 2001 Board of Directors by Jerry Casey. Odie was absent at the Nov. meeting.

Treasurer Loretta Loomis asked that the outstanding bills for this meeting be approved for payment. Motion was made by Odie Tresner, 2nd’d by Randy Knox.

Editor Paula Sands stated that she was working on the new membership directory for accuracy in all member information. She also reminded members that when accessing the restricted section of our website, the username and password must be entered in all lowercase letters.

Lowell Roberts discussed the possible cost of an extra ad in the Locktalk for our distributors. Also, all members were reminded that all information submitted for the Locktalk must be received by Paula no later than the 20th of each month.

Education Director Charles Hudecek discussed the feasibility of future PRP classes for our members. He state that ALOA could present a PRP program costing about $100 per member per class. There would be about 35 classes to complete the PRP course over a period of about 2 years. The topic of high quality educational instructors vs how important an education can be was discussed with the membership by Bill Reeves. Bill said "the concept of education can be destroyed due to a lack of a good quality class." Harry Sher discussed the minimum number of attendees for the PRP classes. The members would need to register for the classes in advance. Lelia McNickle reminded us that we had the finances in our Association which was to be used for educational purposes. Lelia made the motion that we invest some of the Association’s funds in theses classes. Motion was 2nd’d by Bill Reeves . It was mentioned that we could change our swap meet or have an extra weekend for our classes.

It was suggested that we try to have a Sunday class to hold our attendance better and to help more members to attend our trade shows. A possible class by Jim Glazier with ALOA was discussed. This class would be in the field of investigational locksmithing. Charles Hudecek also reminded the members to sign up soon for the class by D.W. Dowless. The cost of this class will soon be published in our newsletter. Odie Tresner thanked all our trade show distributors for their information and answers to all our questions regarding locksmith needs.

GOOD OF THE ORDER

Mr. Kenny Lee presented the membership with the winner of the 2001 Kenny Lee Award. This prestigious award was presented to Lowell Roberts. Lowell thanked everyone in our Association for their help and for his award.

Jerry Casey reminded everyone that the Association dues for 2001 are now due. Members who have not paid by April 1 will be dropped from the membership roll. Randy Knox discussed the feasibility of an incentive to help get more people involved in our meetings. The membership was reminded of the Sunday morning class on Aero try-out keys. Bill Reeves notified us of the Ozark Locksmith meeting March 10, 2001.

Hans Johnson donated a new safe. The winner was Jerry Casey. Other donations included: E.L. Reinhart; two maglite sets; won by Randy Knox and Loretta Loomis. Kenny Lee; two amplifier kits; won by Don Smith and Jim Yeager. Lelia McNickle; silver key earrings; won by Harry Sher.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:24 p.m. by President Jerry Casey.
