SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST - 12/05/2009

We just got word from from our VP, Dusty about one of our members, Chris Slaton, owner of Chris' Midnight Run, and his family and their special need.  Their family has been experiencing tough times, but the most critical need is for his daughter who has been diagnosed with cancer and it has entered her brain.  Please lift the entire family up as they struggle with this difficult situation.

The 40th

Our 40th Anniversary celebration was a big success.  The weather kept some from attending due to power outages, etc. but the room was still full, the meal was great, and everyone had a wonderful time visiting.  Our keynote speaker, Lt. Gov. Jari Askins, spoke about the continuing challenges our Industry will face and how to overcome them by interfacing with our Legislators in local areas on a face-to-face basis.  She is definitely an advocate to our cause.  We were very fortunate to have her as our guest speaker.

Several awards were given; service anniversaries, for the Past President and VP, an ALOA award to OMLA by Harry Sher, and a special plaque presentation to Tim McMullen for all his work with OMLA as the ALOA Legislative Liaison.  He was very instrumental in the licensing process here in Oklahoma.  We also roasted our one and only Lowell Roberts just because he needed it and we had fun doing it.  As always, he was a great sport and dished it out as well as taking it.

The Hotel presented some last minute challenges, but as usual, we overcame them and everything came together.  The final booths for the show the next day were set up right around midnight (banquet teardown and booth setup) and the show fired off on schedule at 9AM.  The show wrapped up around 3PM, and the vendors were out by 4:30 or 5PM.  Attendence was around 100, which was good considering the current economy.

Don't forget to thank our vendors for their participation in our show and making it a great success!!!!, and IDN Acme and H.L. Flake for furnishing the meal for the 2010 show.

Because of Federal crack-downs on scammers for money laundering, we're beginning to see a clean-up effort begin.  Let's keep the pressure on to stop the illegal activities and locksmiths in our state.

Legislative News

The 2010 Legislative Session is in full swing and there is legislation in process that affects our Industry.  The two we're working on now are HB2308 which is not good, and HB2320 which we've brought forward to do some cleanup on the Act.

Licensing Info

Our "Legislative & Licensing Info" section provides data for Licensing information

Are you complying with State Law?

State Law requires we display our company license numbers on our vehicles, our ads, our business cards, pens, whatever we advertise on.  Always carry your State License and present it to your customers when you arrive on the job site.  That assures the public they're not being scammed and are getting a quality, properly licensed locksmith for their needs every time, one they can trust.  Caution each caller about the scammers and how they can avoid them by using licensed locksmiths.

If you find people doing locksmith work who shouldn't be, please take the time to fill out the complaint form and submit it to the State.  If the State doesn't receive the form, they can't act on the problem.  The form is essential for follow-up and action by enforcement.

There is a tab on the home page menu to access the complaint form.

We will be electing our three Directors at our November 20th, 2010 meeting in Tulsa, OK. so be prepared to attend and vote.  If you're interested in one of the Directorships, contact our Secretary or President.

OMLA Membership Directory Update

Dues for 2008 and beyond have increased to $50 per year as of January 1st, 2008.  They should be mailed to Mary Osborne.  The 2010 dues are due in by April 1st, to maintain active member status. (see officers list in the members section for mailing information)  We are trying to get the membership list up to date, so help as you can with correct addresses, e-mails, etc. and if you have not paid your dues yet, please do so so we can update our roster, etc.   We are doing our very best to build an up-to-date member list and get it distributed.  Our Secretary, Mary Osborne and others have been working very hard to gather info.  Please make sure you've provided your info to her.  If in doubt, please give her a call to verify your data.  It's time now to get your 2010 dues paid and the Anniversary Celebration and Distributor's Show is a great time to take care of them for the year.

Our Kenny Lee Lifetime Achievement Award was presented at our 40th Anniversary Celebration at the 2010 annual Distributor's Show in OKC.  The award presentation ws postponed last year (2009), so it could be presented at the 40th Anniversary Celebration.  The 2009 award went to Mike McGrew and the 2010 award was presented to Wilma Lee (Kenny's late wife) for all her great service to the Association over the many years the two of them served us.  I believe the Kenny Lee Award is the highest honor bestowed by our Association.
